History
A family with a winemaking tradition
Pedro d’Orey was born and raised in Herdade de Rio Frio, where, at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, a 4,000-hectare vineyard was planted by his predecessor, considered at the time «the largest continuous vineyard in the world».
That predecessor was José Maria dos Santos, at the time considered the greatest Portuguese winegrower, cousin of Samuel Lupi, Pedro's fifth grandfather. It is through him that his great-grandfather, José Lupi, inherits the Herdade de Rio Frio.
